System requirements

Retrario runs on a computer, in Chrome or Edge. How well it runs depends on the processor's cores, the memory and the graphics chip; the app checks this computer and tells you what to expect before you press Play.

Browser and system

Three classes of computer

ClassThe computerWhat to expect
Tier 1More than 4 logical cores (a 4-core, 8-thread processor counts as 8), 8 GB of memory or more, and a real graphics chipThe target: a steady 50 frames a second on the Full preset
Tier 24 logical cores or fewer, or less than 8 GB of memoryPlayable; starts on the Lite preset
Tier 3Phones and tablets, 2 cores or fewer, or a browser drawing without a graphics chip (a software renderer)Not supported: the app says so before the first copy of the game

The project's reference computer, a tier 1 laptop, has a 4-core, 8-thread Intel Core i5 and a GeForce RTX 2060. The game card in the app shows how computers of your class have done so far.

Chromebooks

A Chromebook works only when it meets tier 1 or tier 2 above. Check its cores and memory first: a Chromebook with 2 cores is tier 3 and is not supported.

The Lite preset

Lite makes the game lighter on smaller computers: the picture at the console's own resolution, Smooth off, one background compile thread instead of two, and background work only when needed. Tier 2 computers start on it, and a tier 1 computer that misses more than 10 % of its frames in a minute of play is offered it. Switch at any time in Settings › Display.

Online matches

Both players need Chrome or Edge on a computer, and the slower computer sets the pace for both, so two tier 1 computers give the smoothest match. A wired connection or good Wi-Fi helps; see Play online.
